Capturing Magic: A Photographer’s Day at the Great Clown Gathering
Last Saturday, June 21st, I had the incredible opportunity to document something truly special – a reunion of approximately 70 professional clowns at the brand-new Falling Coyote Studios in Greenwood Lake, NY. As a photographer, I’m always drawn to unique gatherings, but this event was particularly meaningful.
The atmosphere was electric with joy and nostalgia. Many of these performers hadn’t seen each other in years, and watching their reunions unfold through my viewfinder was genuinely moving. The event was masterfully organized by a respected clown teacher, author, and historian who brought this community together in the studio’s custom-built rehearsal and performance space.

What struck me most was the genuine warmth and camaraderie among the attendees. Between the excellent food and perfect company, the day felt less like a professional gathering and more like a family reunion. The laughter was constant, the stories were endless, and the connections were real.
While I wasn’t able to photograph every single person who attended – 70 people creates quite the logistical challenge! – I did manage to capture some beautiful moments and portraits of several attendees. Each shot tells a story of friendship, artistry, and the unique bond shared by those who dedicate their lives to bringing joy to others.

The new Falling Coyote Studios provided the perfect backdrop for this gathering, and I suspect this won’t be the last time this space hosts such a meaningful event. Sometimes the best photography happens when you’re documenting genuine human connection – and that’s exactly what this day was all about.
