Taking its namesake from Variétés de Minéralogie Object (1939), a shadow box by artist Joseph Cornell, The Mineralogy of Objects finds inspiration in Cornell’s repetition and transformation of a female silhouette to create vigorous exercise – a quartet of dancers pushed and pulled by one another, undeniably connected.
“We are a unison machine, a string of beads, an energetic force rejecting our objectification in the refusal to stay still.” – Laurie b
Created and performed by Jodi Bender, Laurie Berg, Bessie McDonough-Thayer, and Jillian Sweeney with sound by Karl Scholz and lighting by Carol Mullins.
I am excited to share this week at Danspace Project with choreographer Keely Garfield! You can come for a doubleheader each evening and see both works.
