PhysFestNYC co-producer Mark Lonergan set the tone for an extraordinary evening as he welcomed the audience to the festival. The night opened with Luongo’s captivating One-Man-Band performance—a uniquely American tradition with deep roots in both domestic and international music history.
Watching this time-honored form of musicianship unfold live was a genuine thrill. There’s something magical about witnessing a performer juggle multiple instruments simultaneously, carrying on a tradition that stretches back generations. The one-man-band has long been a staple of street corners, vaudeville stages, and variety shows, and experiencing it firsthand reminded us why this art form has endured for so long.

Jon Luongo isn’t just a masterful one-man-band musician—he’s also the Artistic Director of HEALTHY HUMOR, one of New York’s most admired organizations dedicated to bringing joy and healing through performance. Discover more about this wonderful group and their inspiring mission:
Healthy Humor brings joy, wonder, laughter and comfort to hospitalized children and all others who need it the most.
Children in pediatric hospitals often feel fear, anxiety, sadness and isolation. Our flagship program, Red Nose Docs, offers the magic of healthcare clowns to alleviate the stress of that experience for young patients and their circle of caregivers. Using an array of circus and theater skills, our professional, specially-trained performers work in teams of two to create spontaneous, joyful encounters, reintroducing play and fun as natural parts of life.
Healthy Humor is a national, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization (pending). HH’s founders have more than 50 years of combined experience in healthcare clowning. We work in hospitals across the country and are growing every day. Join us!
After taking his curtain call Jon Luongo entertains some audience questions.
The 2026 Edition of PhysFestNYC took place at Stella Adler’s School of Drama.
