Now that Bill Irwin has joined forces with David Shiner again to present OLD HATS I thought it right to ‘look back’ at Bill’s earlier success. “The Regard of Flight“. The show was performed in many venues before going to Lincoln Center. An earlier version of the show was performed at the Baltimore Theater Festival titled “Murdoch” which I saw.
Bill Irwin was brilliant in choosing Doug Skinner and Michael O’Connor to share the stage with him in this show. They were great!
Doug Skinner provided ‘original music’ and Michael O’Connor was hysterical as ‘the critic’ lurching to the stage with comments and questions throughout the show. Wonderful comic timing together made this show a treat for any audience!
For those of you that did not see Bill Irwin, Doug Skinner and Michael O’Connor in “The Regard of Flight”…A wonderfully brilliant show!
“It should be said that Mr. Irwin is a contemporary American performance artist whose name belongs alongside those of Buster Keaton and Marcel Marceau.”

The Happy Hour Trio (Ambrose Martos, Mark Gindick, and Matt Morgan) performed a rather risque piece.
Innocent audience member Jay Katz gets caught in the middle of this ‘risque’ trio.
The evening’s finale was a wild man Matt Morgan performing in his underwear and getting the audience involved in his beer drinking escapade.

Karen Jenson and I attended the performance of James Lecesne's "The Absolute Brightness of Leonard Pelkey" at The Westside Theater today. After the show we got to talk with James about his wonderful one-man show, about the book it was based on and other projects in his life.
THE ABSOLUTE BRIGHTNESS OF LEONARD PELKEY, the new play written and performed by James Lecesne (Word of Mouth), directed by Tony Speciale, with original music by Tony Award-winning composer Duncan Sheik.

Along a intimate gravel road you find the sign ‘Celebration Barn Theater’ and as you approach you see the building that has been the ‘home’ for many physical theater artists and where some learned and honed their skills.
Fritz Grobe talks about his experiences at Celebration Barn and what is being produced now in workshops and performances. Founded in 1972 by mime artist Tony Montenaro, The Celebration Barn has become a lab for physical comedy, commedia-dell-arte, juggling, circus skills, improv and other related performing arts disciplines.

Last year I photographed an amazing collection of young variety artist that came to NY to perform in the show “Mr. Aviner’s Variety Hour’.
It was one of the best shows of young and fresh talent I had come across in a while.
Next month Josh Aviner is producing the 2nd edition of this show. I had a chance to sit down with Josh and the show’s MC Book Kennison with his associate Mike Dobson.
They spoke about the show in different ways and as such I have broke up the interviews in three parts.
Here is the link for the upcoming show! Get your tickets early as I am sure it will SELL OUT!
