The Slipper Room is a New York institution. A House of Variety!
The Slipper Room is facing serious financial difficulties.
I did a wonderful interview with producer James Habacker in 2016. I am posting it here for your viewing. In the meantime, I have put a link below the video to the GoFundMe campaign that is currently set up to help them make it back in one piece! Please Help!
Keith Nelson introduces the show and the evenings festivities.
Joe Barney performed a little ‘carny’ magic with 3 rubber frogs.
Olivia Porter performed a wonderful eccentric dance/mime performance piece with a beer bottle.
Catskill Kenny (Kenny Raskin) told a few corny jokes and then sang some wonderful songs with his ukulele. This song we could certainly enjoy now!
Dan Wasdahl performed several amazing stunts all at once. Juggling clubs, hula-hoop, spinning a ball on a mouth stick and Rolla-Bolla.
Host Keith Nelson introduced to the viewers an age-old stunt. The spinning top.
The Fleet Family 5 performed a straight jacket ‘mass-escape’ by the 3 boys. Put in the straight jackets and then into cardboard boxes and then taped shut! (they had flashlights!) They escaped quickly and with lots of ‘pizazz’.
Beth Beauary performed a beautiful aerial silk act.
Stephanie Monseu celestially invites the viewers to participate in an online survey.
From the ‘press release: a multi-disciplinary spectacle with a marching band, dancers, 12-foot puppets, shadow puppetry and moving projection screens. The band is an award-winning group, the Soul Tigers, young men and women who attend Benjamin Banneker High School in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. Also featured are the Banneker Dancers.
The evening had an edgy feel to it when “Stache Novak” showed up to perform his ‘male strip routine.”
Introduced as the ‘bathroom attendant‘ he quickly removed his pants for the audience’s delight.
And then Laurie Lee Anderson (the winner of Miss Coney Island USA 2020) started her amazing act.
Ridding herself of the dinosaur head she immediately titillated the audience. An audience pleaser for sure she got to her basics real soon. Rockin the house with her jump rope routine Laurie Lee Anderson was wonderful.
Entertaining the audience with her unique looks and style.
It was a pleasure to sit down with Trav SD and hear what he had to say about the upcoming American Vaudeville Theatre show at Under St. Marks.
Trav S.D.’s American Vaudeville Theatre (est. 1995) returns to its Lower East Side origins with a regular series of intimate, informal, seat-of-the-pants semi-improvised revues mixing elements ranging from the old Bowery saloons to Dada Cabaret, to radio comedy, featuring sketches, monologues and songs, plus wonderful line-ups of Trav’s favorite variety, music and comedy acts — usually wonderfully unique people of all sorts. This month we’ll have KOO KOO THE BIRD GIRL (all the way from Australia)
, whip-cracking tap dancer MAVEN PECK PECK, funny lady JENNIFER GLICK,
(Originally produced in 1983 to rave reviews ‘One of the 10 Best Plays of the Year’. New York Times and Time Magazine)
