Circus Amok – “Enough is Enough” – Summer 2018 Parks Tour

There is always wonderful performances when you see Circus Amok in the parks. I attended the Tompkins Square Park performance on Sept 14th (one of 5 parks they performed in) and had so much fun!  Here are a few photographs and video from the show.

The Circus Amok Band needs attention first. They add so much to the show!(left to right: Jenny Romaine, Lee Free, Mary Feaster, Jessica Lurie and Ben Myers.)

Some delightful audience members who came to support Circus Amok.(Lori E. Seid, Peggy Shaw, Lois Weaver and Circus Amok‘s own Jennifer Miller.)

The audience was growing an hour before the show began.Jennifer Miller on stilts announces the beginning of the show.

The Circus Amok even has a tiger trainer.

The audience filled the entry way to the park with children and adults. The Circus Amok clowns had plenty to do and say about America.Jennifer Miller leads the audience through the show with her charming patter. The show always presents wonderful props and scenery to illustrate the theme.Juggling rings and clubs are always a great addition to the circus.

The pyramid balancing of founder/director Jennifer Miller was the finale.

“The Revival of the Uzda Grave Diggers: Part 2”

Between the bundist bootmakers of Minsk and the dashing sash weavers of Slutsk, there were the Gravediggers and Gardeners of UZDA. Once a musar town in Yiddish Lite, now a sleepy shtetl in Belarus, UZDA is home to two adjacent cemeteries, one Jewish and one Muslim Tatar. This excerpt is phase 2 of project by Romaine, with singer/songwriter/accordionist/novelist Geoff Berner and translator Ben Kline, who followed their curiosity about the lost memories and folkways of the Gravediggers and Gardeners of UZDA and the central role of Jewish, Muslim, Christian and Pagan funeral professionals, all living together in the primeval forest for hundreds and hundreds of years.

Circus Amok Entertains in Prospect Park – Sept 17, 2017

On the warm and beautiful Sunday afternoon in Prospect Park last Sunday I attended the delightful antics of CIRCUS AMOK.

This was the last stop in a multi-park tour they did this summer. The Bronx, Manhattan, Queens, Sunset Park and now Prospect Park.

Gathering together some of New York’s finest performers, Circus Amok is a real treat for audiences of all ages.

Founded and directed by the juggler, Professor (Pratt Institute) and former Coney Island USA Sideshow performer Jennifer Miller.

I captured some photographs and video of that day’s festivities. BUT if you really want to witness Circus Amok you have to see them LIVE!

I was there 15 minutes before the show and captured some backstage shots.

Jennifer Miller’s new political, sexy and hysterically funny play

THE GOLDEN RACKET

“The Golden Racket” Inspired by the mayhem of the 2009 New York State Senate the political flip-floppery of Hiram Monsertte and Pedro Espada, “The Golden Racket” follows the adventures of the women behind the men as they set out to enact a certain necessary revenge.  Double crossings, intrigue, high camp, and heartbreak come together in this tragic farce of power, greed, democracy, lust and…tennis?
