I have had the ultimate pleasure of photographing and videotaping Joel Jeske in many shows and moods in many venues over the past several years. I will attempt to post here a collection of images and such to reflect his incredible talents and charm.
Currently, he appears in the Big Apple Circus show “The Grand Tour” at Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts.
But wait…he does not only appear on the show but he also Wrote and Created the show with direction by Parallel Exit’s Mark Lonergan.
Also, the clown material for this show was created by Joel Jeske. He performs the material along with the delightful Brent McBeth.
(these are not chronological)
First. Here is my Clown Un_Mask shot of Joel.

Next is a still from a video I did of Joel talking about ‘what is funny‘ in Sept 2011.

Joel Jeske looks quite disturbed in this fantastic version of musical chairs with audience members.
Brent McBeth is seen behind Joel directing the Big Apple Circus Band. Did Joel lose this contest?

I expect to experience much more mirth and joy from Joel Jeske and hope to have to photograph it as well.

Usually when you think of a clown…you think of a male clown.
But there are a few (should be more) wonderful women clowns in the world that have made their mark. (and are hysterically funny!)
Mooky Cornish is one of them. A veteran of Cirque du’Soleil and other world venues, she is currently performing in LA SOIREE in NYC.
Mooky plays piano, makes and performs with puppets, is a mask maker, accordion player, and always a great conversationalist!
Mooky was hesitant to have her picture taken without costume.

Originally posted in Feb. 2010. My first of the CLOWN UN_MASK series.
One of the most interesting performers that I have photographed recently is Glen Heroy. He is a cameleon! In one show he is Dame Edna and in another show he is Elton John.(along with many others.) He plays the spoons like nobody I know and is an amazingly funny clown. I ask Glen to work with me on a new project I am doing. THE CLOWN UNMASK. A photographic study of the eccentric clown performer as himself and in character.
I am posting 3 shots of him in character personas. I did a photograph of Glen in a nice quiet apt. with beautiful window light.I think the visuals tell the story about a very talented and extremely versatile performer.
Glen Heroy as Dame Edna at the 2007 New York Downtown Clown GOLDEN NOSE AWARDS
Glen Heroy relaxes with a smile!
He worked with the Big Apple Circus Clown Care Unit for many years. And has worked in the ring with The Big Apple Circus. Along with all his character performance work currently he also works with The Maestrosities. (The Coolest Band Ever!)
Recently I did a video interview with Glen about his years performing as Santa Claus during the Christmas holidays. You can see it here.
It is performers like Glen that inspired me to photograph clowns and eccentric performers in the first place. I look forward to seeing him again soon on stage and off.
