Director’s Notes on Production

Prometheus: Zeus refused to give fire to mortal men, but Prometheus stole fire and gave it to them. As punishment, Zeus bound him with cruel chainsm and drove a shaft through the middle, and set on him an eagle, which gnawed on his liver all day; but each night the liver grew again as much as the bird had devoured in the day before.

Io: Zeus lusted after Io, a young girl who refused his advances. He made her part cow to hide her. His wife Hera discovered her and then forced her to wander the earth without rest, plagued by a gadfly to sting her into madness. She wandered for many years traveling through Europe, Asia and Africa.

The 5th Annual ‘Cirque Off’ – Triskelion Arts – Jan. 20th, 2012

The evening was filled with surreal imagery provided by some of NY’s very eccentric performers.

The evening started off with a group of stage hands working on cleaning up the stage.

John Leo and Andy Sapora got involved in removing a metal apparatus that was hanging from the middle of the ceiling. YIKES!

“A Life in Her Day” – A One Woman Show by Hilary Chaplain

Hilary Chaplain in her one woman show A LIFE IN HER DAY.

Hilary Chaplain is a professional ‘funny woman’. Her show A LIFE IN THE DAY is an example of a well rehearsed,

clever, timed and executed with a wonderful sense of improv and contact with the audience.

Hilary with a mouth full of delicious marshmallows.

I was present at the last performance on Sunday Dec. 11th. She had run the show since Dec.8th and this was the last performance!

The afternoon show was attended well and the audience was there with her all the way.

She is a professional and has been performing as a solo artist for many years.

A romance with a twist and laughs all around.

Here is a video excerpt from the show.

Catch it when it comes back to your ‘neck of the woods’.

Performing Arts Photography Puppetry Story Teller

The Greatest Smallest Parade

Today I photographed a wonderful parade. Not your normal one. This was a parade that was promoted as “The Greatest Smallest Parade”. And indeed it was! Floats made from small toys and plastic characters were mostly waiting in line to head out for the grand Parade.

The company GREAT SMALL WORKS produce an Annual International  TOY THEATRE FESTIVAL that happens at St. Ann’s each and every year. This is their 9th year! They have a Museum and start the festivities with a Greatest Smallest Parade.

One of the Smallest Floats!

The floats were varied. But most of the were very very small. It was a fun time for the families that just happened to be in Dumbo today. There was even a float that was a ‘cloud’.

When the parade reached it’s destination St. Ann’s Warehouse it just so happened that a charming japanese couple were getting married. So they joined in and made the parade ever more festive. They even had a brass band to accompany them for their fun.

A marriage ceremony that landed right in the middle of the parade.

Once all the floats were inside St. Ann’s they are on display for everyone to see. I liked this one alot.

A charming heartfelt float by Jane Gish. She also did one of a boat.

“I planted my feelings” float…

Go to the website (HERE) to see what shows are coming to St. Ann’s. They start this week and promise to bring a smile to your face.

And the band plays on!
