The Curators of PhysFestNYC Present ‘Crossroads’

The evening showcased an impressive range of talent and artistic disciplines as the curators of @PhysFestNYC presented their own work—both performing and choreographing pieces for other dancers. Capturing these dedicated artists was a true pleasure, and the energy in the room reflected their commitment to their craft.

Selma Trevino presented a stunning dance piece, her movements flowing in conversation with the rhythms of Brazilian drummer Vilcimar Mariano-Conceição. The collaboration showcased both artists’ considerable talent and experience, creating a dialogue between body and percussion that transcended language. Here are some photographs I captured from the performance.

Star Mitchel performed a wonderful dance piece. Reflecting a mindfulness and discipline that reached out to the audience.

Lou Sydel‘s mask gesture tableau served as the evening’s metaphor, a wordless meditation performed through movement and dance. The choreographed imagery—at once charming, reflective, and deeply poignant—held the audience spellbound, transforming the stage into a gallery of living portraits where gesture spoke louder than words.

Kayla Spalding and Toni Owens delivered a striking duet under the visual direction of Margarita Blush, commanding the stage through stark scenery and masterful shadow play. The dancers moved through pools of light and darkness, their impressive choreography creating a visual feast that engaged the audience on a purely aesthetic level—a performance where shadow became as eloquent as movement itself.

Daniel Irizarry shattered the evening’s composure with a surreal and explosively energetic clown presence. From the moment he hit the stage, all eyes locked onto this riot of color and controlled chaos—a party-animal unleashed, vibrating with manic joy. The performance delivered a necessary antidote to the overly serious, a reminder that madness, when channeled through artistry, becomes pure medicine for the soul.

The well deserved ‘curtain call’ for the ‘Crossroads’ cast @PhysFestNYC 2026
